As creative visionary behind Domayne’s winter launch catalogue, prominent Australian and now NYC-based stylist Glen Proebstel is our all-time favourite style insider. Here Glen chats about our winter launch catalogue and the key trends of the season.
Can you give us an overview of the predominant looks for this winter?
Retro - Bold graphics and pops of colour blend with contemporary furniture making retrospective influences more relative to our times.
Industrial – Introduced rather heavily into the marketplace in early 2007 vintage industrial is stronger than ever. Select timeless pieces that stand the test of time and mix with vintage industrial items for an eclectic mix.
Hollywood Glamour - Luxe and glamour are now attainable thanks to the selection of high quality furniture items and materials currently on offer. Glass, Chrome metals and glitzy dining chairs mix with white leathers and black lacquer for high class style.
Country Manor – Bring that weekend retreat sensibility to an urban landscape with a stunning range of country inspired furniture made from solid oak and soft-feel linen fabrics.

Which of these trends appeals to you most and why?
I’m quite partial to some of the pieces from the Retro theme, particularly some of the new sofas in the Molmic collection (pictured above). Not only are they designs and shapes on-trend but I also like to support the fact that these sofas are made right here in Australia.

From all the amazing shots in the winter launch catalogue, do you have a favourite?
The ‘Maison’ Extension Dining Table (above) because I love a challenge. When I was informed of the size and scale of this extendable dining table, I had to ensure that we had a large enough set to accommodate. The mix and match of chairs brings more personality to the scene where as one type of dining chair would be too predictable. I drew inspiration from this look from events and weddings that I have seen and been to in country barns. I felt that this type of background would lend itself to this dramatic scale.

What are the predominant colour palettes for this season?
It’s all about ‘pops’ of colour this season. Walls, floors and furniture tend to be of a neutral palette, introducing key pieces in accessories or armchairs (such as the ‘Jersey’ armchair above) to give you up to date style without having to do a complete overhaul to your interior space. Select larger ticket items for their classical shapes and designs and work with fabrics that stand the test of time. That way, you can bring in hot trend colours on a whim – meaning you can stay current and inspired by your personal space.
